Dear Ali Sina,
I was born into a Muslim family but never got into the Islamic mindset. In fact I find the attitudes and behaviour of a good number of Muslims here very distasteful. I have never ever prayed to any god or set foot inside a house of prayer except to admire the art in some of them be they Hindu, Christian, Muslim etc.
I realize that since we live in a proper democracy (India) the Muslims here are not as extremist as those who live under theocracies and dictatorships but still many do hold extremely obnoxious views about non-Muslims.
Once in a while the majority community (Ithe Hindus) does contribute to a sense of insecurity of the Muslims, such as sporadic riots or the Ayodhya incident. The mullas and maulanas then go into overdrive and try to create religious frenzy in the community.
The Muslims here forget that for nearly a thousand years they lorded it over the Hindus. But the Hindus have become the ruling class only during the last 50 years after a bloody partition instigated by the followers of Islam. Yet the Muslims in the Hindu majority part of partitioned India are accorded full democratic including religious rights. Compare this with Pakistan!
It makes me angry when people of my community talk disparagingly or talk of their personal laws being threatened.
I have been visiting your website regularly and I think you are doing a good job. I would like to contribute to your vision. I could probably do it by starting an Indiacentric website but I am not sure I will be able to maintain it for any length of time. (What would it cost to run for at least 5 years or so?). Or I could contribute to some website which already is doing something similar. Are you aware of any such site.
My knowledge of Islam is not of the scholarly type.I read history, popular science books and books on religion and reflect on them. I have read the Koran in translation and the biography of Mohammed by Ibn Khatir, both shocked me.
And that sorry specimen of modern Muslim scholarship The Sealed Nectar by Mubarakpuri in which the horrendous activities of the prophet and his faithfuls are held up for human emulation for all time to come! What disturbs me is the mental gymnastics some Muslims display to justify incidents like Kinana's torture and beheading or what befell the Banu Quraiza.
I would like to contribute to your cause because I feel that throwing some light into the dark recesses of brainwashed minds as you do will help my community to wrench itself free of the clowns who style themselve 'Islamic scholars' and religious teachers.
Yours sincerely
sagar
