Corruption (Tahreef) in Quran

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly versionSend to friendSend to friendPDF versionPDF versionBy Amar Khan

The Quran makes this claim:

Verily, we have sent down the Reminder, and, verily, we will guard it. Q15:9

But like other books of world Qoran is also corrupted. And interesting fact is that Muslims also accept this fact in the way that Sunni blame Shia to corrupt the Koran and Shia blame Sunni to corrupt the Koran. In reality, both books of Shia and Sunni’s are having narrations regarding corruption and editing in unholy Koran.

Following are the narrations showing the corruption in Koran from both Shia and Sunni sources.

Missing Suckling verse:

Sahih Muslim, Book 8, Number 3421: Narrated Aisha:

It had been revealed in the Qur'an that ten clear suckling make the marriage unlawful, then it was abrogated (and substituted) by five suckling and Allah's Apostle (peace_be_upon_him) died and it was before that time (found) in the Qur'an (and recited by the Muslims).

This verse is not found in the Qur'an today. Why? Where is it gone?

The Missing Bismillah:

ibn `Abbas asked `Uthman what possessed him to place surat al Anfal, one of the mathani, with Bara'a, one of the mi'in, join them with no bismillah between them and place them among the seven lengthy suras. `Uthman replied that often the Prophet received quite long revelations. He would call for one of the scribes and say, 'Put these verses in the sura in which so-and-so occurs.' Anfal was among the first of the Medina revelations and Bara'a among the last. Since its contents resembled those of Anfal, `Uthman took it to belong with it; for the Prophet had died without explaining that it was part of it.

(John Burton, The Collection of the Qur'an, 1977, p. 164 quoting Jalal al Din `Abdul Rahman b. abi Bakr al Suyuti, "al Itqan fi `ulum al Qur'an", Halabi, Cairo, 1935/1354, pt 1, p. 60)

The Missing "Pleasing" Verse:

Anas is reported in the two Sahih's as declaring:

'There was revealed concerning those slain at Bi'r Ma`una a Qur'an verse which we recited until it was withdrawn: "Inform our tribe on our behalf that we have met with our Lord. He has been well pleased with us and has satisfied our desires."'

(John Burton, The Collection of the Qur'an, 1977, pp. 48-49, Jalal al Din `Abdul Rahman b. abi Bakr al Suyuti, "al Itqan fi `ulum al Qur'an", Halabi, Cairo, 1935/1354, pt 2, p. 26)

Narrated Anas:

The Prophet sent seventy men from the tribe of Bani Salim to the tribe of Bani Amir. When they reached there, my maternal uncle said to them, "I will go ahead of you, and if they allow me to convey the message of Allah's Apostle (it will be all right); otherwise you will remain close to me." So he went ahead of them and the pagans granted him security But while he was reporting the message of the Prophet , they beckoned to one of their men who stabbed him to death. My maternal uncle said, "Allah is Greater! By the Lord of the Kaba, I am successful." After that they attached the rest of the party and killed them all except a lame man who went up to the top of the mountain. (Hammam, a sub-narrator said, "I think another man was saved along with him)." Gabriel informed the Prophet that they (i.e the martyrs) met their Lord, and He was pleased with them and made them pleased. We used to recite, "Inform our people that we have met our Lord, He is pleased with us and He has made us pleased." Later on this Quranic Verse was cancelled. The Prophet invoked Allah for forty days to curse the murderers from the tribe of Ral, Dhakwan, Bani Lihyan and Bam Usaiya who disobeyed Allah and his Apostle. (Sahih Bukhari 4.57)

Narrated Anas bin Malik:

For thirty days Allah's Apostle invoked Allah to curse those who had killed the companions of Bir-Mauna; he invoked evil upon the tribes of Ral, Dhakwan, and Usaiya who disobeyed Allah and His Apostle. There was reveled about those who were killed at Bir-Mauna a Quranic Verse we used to recite, but it was cancelled later on. The Verse was:

"Inform our people that we have met our Lord. He is pleased with us and He has made us pleased." (Sahih Bukhari 4.69): Ayesha also testified to a 'missing' verse on stoning

"When the verses "Rajm" [Stoning] and ayah "Rezah Kabir" descended, they were written on a piece of paper and kept under my pillow. Following the demise of Prophet Muhammad (S) a goat ate the piece of paper while we were mourning. 1. Sunan Ibne Majah, Volume 2, Page 39, Published Karachi. 2. Sura 2:238 is not complete according to Aisha

Malik's Muwatta, Book 8, Number 8.8.26:

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam from al-Qaqa ibn Hakim that Abu Yunus, the mawla of A'isha, umm al-muminin said, "A'isha ordered me to write out a Qur'an for her. She said, 'When you reach this ayat, let me know, "Guard the prayers carefully and the middle prayer and stand obedient to Allah."' When I reached it I told her, and she dictated to me, 'Guard the prayers carefully and the middle prayer and the asr prayer and stand obedient to Allah.' A'isha said, 'I heard it from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.'"

Malik's Muwatta, Book 8, Number 8.8.27:

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam that Amr ibn Rafi said, "I was writing a Qur'an for Hafsa, umm al-muminin, and she said, 'When you reach this ayat, let me know, "Guard the prayers carefully and the middle prayer and stand obedient to Allah."' When I reached it I told her and she dictated to me, 'Guard the prayers carefully and the middle prayer and the asr prayer and stand obedient to Allah.'"

Most of Surah Ahzab been lost:2, in his hadith about chapter 33, said that Ibn Mardawayh reported that Hudhayfah said: Suyuti narrates from Hadhrath Ayesha:

Al-Muttaqi 'Ali bin Husam al-Din in his book "Mukhtasar Kanz al-'Ummal" printed on the margin of Imam Ahmad's Musnad, Volume 2, page 'Umar said to me 'How many verses are contained in the chapter of al-Ahzab?' I said, '72 or 73 verses.' He said it was almost as long as the chapter of the Cow, which contains 287 verses, and in it there was the verse of stoning. "During the life of the Prophet (s), Surah Ahzab was read with 200 verses, when Uthman collected the verses we only found that amount that is found in the current Qur'an". Tafseer Durre Manthur Volume 5 page 180, al Itqan Volume 2 page 25

One-third of the Qur'an been lost: "Hadhrath Umar said at the Saqifa that the Qur'an has 1,027,000 letters" Tafseer al Itqan" by as Suyuti, page 88 "No one can proclaim that I have found the Qur'an complete because most of the Qur'an has been lost". The revered Sunni scholar al Hafidh Jalaladeen as Suyuti writes: The present Qur'an has 267,033 letters. According to Hadhrath Umar's research the Qur'an should have approximately 90 parts. What is the Nasibis fatwa here? Suyuti also records the following words of Abdullah ibne Umar:

"Tafseer Durre Manthur" as-Suyuti Volume 1 page 104

'Words' been omitted from the present Qur'an:In Sahih Muslim Volume 7 (commentary of al-Nawawi) in the Book of al-Zakah, about the virtue of being satisfied with whatever God gives and about urging people to have that virtue, pages 139-140, reported that Abu al-Aswad reported that his father said:Basra. Recite the Qur'an and do not neglect it. Otherwise, a long time may elapse and your hearts will be hardened as the hearts of those who came before you were hardened." It is obvious that these words which Abu Musa mentioned are not from the Qur'an, nor are they similar to any of the words of God in the Qur'an. It is amazing that Abu Musa claims that two Surah's from the Qur'an are missing, one of them similar to Bara'ah (the chapter of Bara'ah contains 130 verses). "Abu Musa al-Ash'ari invited the Qur'an readers of Basra. Three hundred readers responded to his invitation. He told them: You are the readers and the choice of the people of "We used to read a chapter from the Qur'an similar to Bara'ah in length and seriousness, but I forgot it. I can remember from that chapter only the following words: 'Should a son of Adam own two valleys full of wealth, he would seek a third valley, and nothing would fill Ibn Adam's abdomen but the soil. "'We used to read a chapter similar to Musabbihat and I forgot it. I only remember out of it the following: "'Oh you who believe, why do you say what you do not do? Thus a testimony will be written on your necks and you will be questioned about it on the Day of Judgment."

Two Surah's missing from the Qur'anAbi bin Ka'ab said that in his copy he has added "Surah Al khula" and "Surah Al hifd". Its verses were "(Actual words are cited in the Arabic text)" 1. Mujma-ul-Zayad, Volume 7, Page 157, Published Egypt 2. Al Itqan Fil Ulum-ul-Qur'an, Volume 2, Page 66, Published Lahore 3. Ruh al Ma'ani Volume 1, Page 25, Egypt

Sahaba read verses containing 'Ali's name:We would like to make it clear that this is the Nasibi's own interpretation of the text. Before responding to this lie let us first of all cite some of the texts of the Ahl'ul Sunnah."We in the presence of Rasulullah (s) would read this verse (5:67) as follows:." 1. Tafseer Durre Manthur Volume 2 page 298 2. Tafseer Fathul Qadeer, Volume 2 page 87 3. Tafseer Mazhari Volume 3 page 153 "and enough was Allah for the believers in their fight 'via Ali ibn Abi Talib'. 1. Tafseer Durre Manthur Volume 5 page 192 2. Tafseer Ruh al Maani, Volume 21 page 157

Ibn Masud narrates: "O Apostle! Deliver what has been sent down to you from your Lord; 'that 'Ali is the Maula of the Momineen', if you don't Ibn Masud also notes that he would read this verse from Surah Ahzab as follows:

The Deobandi Scholar Maulana Anwar Shah's Fatwa, that there is Tahreef in the Qur'an

We should point out to the Deobandi Sect, the fact that you believe Sahih al Bukhari to be one hundred per cent authentic (which is not our aqeedah (belief) about al-Kafi) means that they have to believe in tahreef on account of the traditions of the Sahaba. The famous Indian Hadith scholar of the Deobandis Syed Anwar Shah Kashmiri in his recognized Ahl'ul Sunnah work "Fayz ul Bari" page 395 Volume 3 under the Chapter "As Shah'adhat writes: "It is my analysis based on Sahih al Bukhari that the Qur'an has tahreef with regards to words and this was an accredited to Hadhrath Uthman's party as an unintentional or intentional mistake".Surat al-walayat There are some surah which shia claim that were revealed but not found in modern Koran.

Some other shia narrations

Jabir reported that he heard Imam Baqir saying: 'No one can claim that he has compiled the Quran as Allah revealed except a liar. The only person to compile it and memorise it according to its revelation was Ali ibn Abi Talib and the Imams who succeeded him. (Usul Kafi: 1:228) A man said that someone was reciting the Quran in the company of Imam Ja'far. The narrator said that he heard certain verses in the recitation which were not according to the recitation of the people. Imam Ja'far told the person reciting: 'Do not recite like this. Recite as the people recite until the (promised) Mahdi arrives. When the Mahdi arrives, he will recite the Quran according to its original revelation and the Qu,ran compiled by Ali will be brought forward. (Ibid: 2.622)

Allah says in Surah Ale Imraan (32): "Certainly Allah has chosen Adam, Noah, the family of Abraham and the family of Imraan above the (families of the) worlds."

Allamah Ali ibn Ibrahim AI-Qummi - one of the early Shi'ite commentators of the Quran said concerning this verse: The Imam said: 'The words: "The family of Muhammed" were also revealed along with "the family of Ale Imraan." They (referring to the Companions of the Prophet S.A.W.) removed the words "The family of Muhammad" from the original text (Al-Qummi's commentary:308). The allegation of removing the words preempts any possibility of abrogation. It is clear that the commentary is accusing the Companions of the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) of distorting the Quran. Allah says in Surah Taha (115): \ "And We had given Adam an order before, but he forgot and We did not find any resolve in him (to disobey the order)." Imam Ja'far is reported to have said that Allah had revealed this verse with the following words: "We had ordered Adam before with some words about Muhammad, Ali, Fatima, Hassan, Hussain and the Imams from their offspring but he (Adam) forgot." Ja'far said: 'By Allah, these were the words which were revealed to Muhammad.' (Usul Kafi: 1:416 and the footnotes of Maqbool's translation: 637) Allah says in Surah Yusuf (49): "Then a year will come in which people will be given abundant help and they will press grapes." In AI-Qummi's commentary it is reported from Imam Ja'far that someone recited this verse in the presence of Ali. Ali said: 'What will they press'? Wine?' The person asked how he should read the verse. Ali replied that the verse was revealed thus: "Then a year will come in which people will he given abundant help and in which they will be given abundant rain. (Al-Qummi's commentary: 192) The word Ya'siroon in the present Quran is in the active voice. According to this commentary it should have been read in the passive voice as Yu'saroon to alter the meaning. In the footnotes to the translation of Maqbool, it is written that this word (Ya'siroon) was changed from the passive voice to the active to suit the fancies of wine-loving khulafa (rulers). (Maqbool's translation: 479) Allah says in Surah Muhammad (9): "That is because they resented what Allah revealed, so Allah in turn cancelled their deeds." AI-Qummi has stated that Imam Muhammad Baqir said that Jibreel had transmitted this verse as: 'That is because they resented what Allah revealed about Ali.' But then the apostates removed Ali's name (from the Quran). (Ibid: 1011) Allah says in Surah Waqi'ah (29): "And the Companions of the Right Hand. What about the Companions of the Right Hand. They shall be among thornless lote-trees and under clusters of bananas." One person recited this verse in the presence of Ali. Ali said that the word Talh is not.appropriate and should read Tal'a as in Surah Shu'araa (.........). Some enquired as why the word should not be changed. Ali replied that it was not the right time to do so because correcting the Quran would only confuse common people. He went on to say that among the Imams, only Imam Mahdi will have the right to reintroduce the Quran as it was during the time of the prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam). (Ibid: 1067) Abu Mansur Ahmed Tibrisi, a prominent Shi'ite scholar of the 8th century (H), has written: 'Enumerating the distortions and omissions of this sort (from the present Quran) would become laborious and it will disclose what Taqiyyah (Shi'ite practice to conceal the 'truth' for religious purposes) requires me not to disclose: the good qualities of Allah's friends and the vices of His enemies. (AI-Ihtijaj by Tibrisi: 1:254) Mullah Muhsin Kashani, an 11th century Shi'ite scholar comments on the above quoted statement: 'It is clear from all of these traditions and quotations from the Family of the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) that the present Quran is not the complete Quran which was revealed to the Prophet (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam). In fact, there are verses that contradict that which was revealed; verses that have been distorted and places where omissions have been made such as the names of Ali, the Family of Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) and, on several occasions, there were the names of the hypocrites. Moreover, the present order of the Quran is not according to the preferred order of Allah and His Messenger. Ali ibn Ibrahim (a renowned commentator) also holds this opinion.' (Tafseer of Saafi: l:32)

Brilliant article! It is really amazing how muslim sources can be used to unmask the myths of islam, such as the perfect and unchanged kuran.

Well whoever wrote this is a

Well whoever wrote this is a liar. I mean if you have any Islamic knowledge at all you can see write through this. It does not match up with the reality. Non-muslims and shiah alway 1. Lie and 2. Follow false and shaky information. That is why the Bible is a mess and the Torah is also a mess. But don't try to make the Quran a mess like your books. The Quran is clear, you just dont want to accept it and you don't want to obey Allah. That is why you are a cursed people. May Allah prevent you from spreading more lies about his book. Amin.
